CORAL REEFS ARE DYING.
THE HUMAN SPIRIT IS NOT.
SHEBA® is delighted to present Reef Builders: an inspirational documentary telling the story of a team of islanders and scientists' race against time to rebuild our reefs, and preserve our way of life.
Bringing to life the story of the Sheba Hope Grows™ program and the phenomenal work of our team in Indonesia and through our NGO partners, Reef Builders is available to watch now on Amazon Prime Video

THE SHEBA HOPE GROWS™
PROGRAM
Working in teams, we deploy Reef Stars in extensive webs that stretch across large areas of dead coral rubble. We can plant dozens of Reef Stars per hour, covering an area the size of a basketball court in just a few days. These webs of Reef Stars stabilise loose rubble and provide a strong platform on which outplanted coral can grow. After a few years, the coral completely overgrows and engulfs the Reef Stars, which become fully integrated into the reef structure. This creates new habitats for fish and invertebrates and encourages the settlement of additional native corals. As natural ecological processes kick back into motion, the whole reef comes back to life.
FEATURED PROJECTS
Salisi’ Besar, Indonesia, since 2019
HOPE REEF
In 2024, communities from all over the world, including Kenya, Hawai'i, Malaysia, Maldives and Australia all came to Hope Reef to be trained in the MARRS method, and participate in a global community knowledge share event
O’ahu, Hawai’i, USA, since 2023
OUR CORAL COMMITMENT
Our partner, Kuleana Coral Restoration, unites the ancestral wisdom of reef and ocean conservation with established scientific techniques to revive the coral reefs of Hawai’i. Collaborating with the SHEBA® Brand and their marine scientists since 2023, Kuleana continues to pilot methods of coral restoration, together with training more teams, with the aim of restoring more sites around Hawai’i.
The Maldives, since 2021
NURTURING THE MALDIVES
Following the success of Hope Reef in Indonesia, the SHEBA® Brand took the next step by implementing its restoration initiative at one of the world’s most vibrant locations, The Maldives.
Identified as an important ecoregion with a high dependency on its coral reefs, the Maldives represents a key site for coral reef restoration. The SHEBA® Brand has been working with The Maldives Coral Institute, Save the Beach Maldives, and Diamonds resort to support coral reef restoration and help save Maldivian coral reefs from irreversible loss and degradation. In October 2024, we supported a Save The Beach Maldives training event, installing 280 Reef Stars, outplanting over 4000 corals as part of the Maldives Coral Restoration Program.
Great Barrier Reef, Australia, since 2024
THE GREAT RESTORATION
From our initial site in Indonesia, The Sheba Hope Grows™ program is now growing much closer to Australian hearts: The Great Barrier Reef.
Using Mars Sustainable Solutions' unique Reef Stars, we’ve been able to out plant live coral fragments back onto the reef where they are thriving.
The GBR Reef Stars are built at a newly established manufacturing facility in Cairns, which also provides training to restoration practitioners and First Nations people to learn and lead Reef Star fabrication.
Mars Sustainable Solutions, working alongside a diverse range of partners, has installed 1,423 Reef Stars, 21,345 coral fragments, with some restoration sites representing 53 different species.
Lamu Archipelago, Kenya, since 2023
EAST AFRICA RESTORATION
The East African Coastline, extending for 4,600km is an important and unique marine ecoregion. The reefs across this ecoregion provide food, protection and income for ~22million people, support over 3,000 species and has the potential to act as vital biodiversity refuge in the threat of climate change
Since 2023, we have partnered with The Ocean Trust to rebuild and restore reefs, planting the first ever Reef stars across Africa
Cartagena, Colombia, since 2025
WOMEN OF RESTORATION
In 2025, the SHEBA® Brand partnered with Corales De Paz, a Colombian non-profit organisation, that promotes coral reef conservation and restoration, integrating science, community and sustainability at every step. Across 2025, Reef Stars will be piloted in the Colombian Caribbean for the first time, marking a huge milestone for coral reef restoration.
Currently, the NGO is being managed and led by a group of passionate Colombian female marine biologists, working tirelessly to restore and safeguard our precious coral reefs.
